We believe in building trust, reducing fear, and walking with each person on the path toward stability, clarity, and hope.
Long-term stability starts with a collaborative treatment plan. At Proverbs, our psychiatric team offers both medical care and ongoing virtual support tailored to the individual’s needs and symptoms.
Through a thorough video assessment, your provider will explore symptom history, family background, and current functioning. We take time to rule out other conditions (like mood disorders or substance-induced psychosis) to ensure you receive an accurate diagnosis.
Antipsychotic medications are the foundation of schizophrenia treatment. These help manage hallucinations, delusions, and thought disturbances. Your provider will work closely with you to find the most effective medication with the fewest side effects.
Schizophrenia requires ongoing care. We schedule regular follow-ups to assess symptom changes, adjust medication as needed, and offer real-time support through secure messaging.
Referrals for therapy and additional support services (such as cognitive behavioral therapy, psychosocial skills training, or case management) can be arranged as needed.
There’s no single cause of schizophrenia. Like many mental health conditions, it results from a combination of genetic, biological, and environmental factors, including:
Family history: Having a parent or sibling with schizophrenia increases risk
Brain chemistry: Imbalances in neurotransmitters like dopamine
Prenatal factors: Malnutrition, infections, or stress during pregnancy
Trauma or stress: Early childhood adversity or life disruptions
Substance use: Drug use (particularly during adolescence) can trigger symptoms in vulnerable individuals
Schizophrenia is not anyone’s fault—and it is not a reflection of character or strength.
Schizophrenia symptoms typically fall into three categories:
Hallucinations – hearing, seeing, or sensing things that aren’t real (most commonly voices)
Delusions – fixed false beliefs not based in reality (e.g., thinking you're being watched or followed)
Disorganized speech or behavior – difficulty staying on topic, sudden shifts in conversation, erratic actions
Lack of motivation or interest
Flat affect (reduced expression of emotion)
Social withdrawal or isolation
Difficulty initiating or sustaining activities
Poor concentration
Trouble with memory or processing information
Difficulty with executive functioning (e.g., planning, decision-making)
Symptoms often begin between ages 16–30, but early signs—like social withdrawal or cognitive changes—can appear even earlier. An accurate diagnosis is critical for effective treatment.
Schizophrenia is a chronic brain disorder that impacts how a person thinks, perceives, and responds to the world. It can cause hallucinations, delusions, disorganized behavior, and cognitive disruptions that affect communication, relationships, and everyday functioning.
It’s a complex condition—but with proper treatment, many people can lead full and meaningful lives.
Contrary to outdated stereotypes, schizophrenia is not about “split personalities” or being dangerous. It’s a medical condition—not a personal failure or moral weakness—and it deserves the same compassion as any physical illness.
Schizophrenia is not a life sentence—it’s a medical condition that, with the right treatment and care, can be managed. If you or a loved one is experiencing symptoms like hallucinations, delusions, or disorganized thinking, know this: you are not alone, and effective support is available. You can book online, text us, and meet your psychiatrist from the comfort of your home.
We help you take control of anxiety, depression, and overwhelm—so you can start feeling like yourself again.
